A TRAVEL GUIDE TO HOI AN

Updated: 01:16 PM - 02 May,2024

Hội An is one of the most popular destinations for visitors in Vietnam. The town is located in central Vietnam, and it’s a mid-way stop for many travelers doing a trip from the North to the South (or vice versa).

If you are planning to travel to Hội An, you must ensure that you meet Vietnam’s entry requirements. Depending on your nationality and travel plans, this may include applying for a visa before your trip.

Do I Need a Visa to Travel to Hội An?

Most nationalities must have a visa to enter Vietnam and visit Hội An. Unless you are from a visa exempt country, you cannot travel to Hội An without a valid travel permit.

Fortunately, many passport holders are eligible to apply for the Vietnam eVisa. This is the fastest and most convenient way to obtain permission to enter the country.

The Vietnam online visa is valid for trips to Hội An, and the rest of Vietnam. You can use the same travel document to visit as many Vietnamese destinations as you like, providing your visa is valid for the duration of your stay.

How to Get a Visa for Hội An

There are a number of ways you can apply for a visa for your trip to Hội An. Below is an explanation of each application method to help you decide which is best for you.

Hội An electronic tourist visa (eVisa)

The Vietnam eVisa is the most popular way to apply for a visa for Hoi An, due to its quick application process and fast turnaround time.

You simply need to apply for the document through the online system, and you will receive the approved visa for Vietnam electronically.

Hội An tourist visa on arrival (VOA)

It is possible to get a visa on arrival (VOA) in Vietnam, however there are some setbacks to this method.

The VOA service in Vietnam still requires applicants to complete a form in advance to receive an Approval Letter. Travelers must then wait at the border and present their Approval Letter to request a visa on arrival.

Most visitors choose to use the online eVisa service, which eliminates waiting in a queue at the border.

Hội An embassy tourist visa

You can also apply for a visa for Hội An through a Vietnamese diplomatic government office. Citizens of countries who are not visa exempt, or eligible for the eVisa, can use this method.

If this applies to you, you can contact your nearest Vietnamese embassy or consulate for further information about the visa application process.

Travel to Hội An With a Vietnamese Visa

Once you have received your approved Vietnam visa you can use it to travel to Vietnam at any point during its validity period.

If you are planning on traveling directly to Hội An, the easiest way is by plane. Hội An does not have an airport, however, Da Nang International Airport is only a 45-minute drive away.

Da Nang International Airport operates flights from the following countries: Singapore, Seoul, South Korea, and Malaysia. If you are coming from another country, you can fly to either Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, then take a domestic flight to Da Nang.

Vietnam Visa Extension in Hội An

If you are already in Hội An and you wish to stay for longer than your visa allows, it is possible to request a visa extension or renewal.

Travelers can go to the Immigration Office in Da Nang to apply for a visa extension or renewal. The office is located at the following address:

Da Nang Immigration Office

78 Le Loi

Thach Thang

Hai Chuang

Da Nang

Another option to stay longer in Vietnam is to leave the country and apply for a new Vietnam eVisa. Many travelers take advantage of this method by visiting other neighboring countries, such as Cambodia or Laos.
